Going Organic: The Importance of Transitioning to an Organic Diet

When you’re looking to change your diet for the better, consider adding organic foods to each meal. Organic foods not only taste great, but they’re loaded with antioxidants, vitamins and healthy fats.

With so many organic options available today, you can create a diet similar to the one you have now, but it will be much more nutritious and beneficial to your overall health.

When you combine a healthy, organic diet with exercise and other smart choices, you’ll be well on your way to reaching your diet goals and living your healthiest life.

Organic foods are farmed naturally

One of the benefits of turning to an organic diet is knowing you’re getting something that was grown naturally. For a food to be labeled organic, the USDA must verify that it is being grown and produced properly. Farmers that grow organically use green manures, cover crops, crop rotation and more to ensure healthy soil, preventing the need for synthetic pesticides and fertilizer.

These practices help make sure that there are no added hormones, antibiotics or GMOs in the organic items that you will ultimately be consuming.

They have been shown to have more antioxidants

Although further research is required, there have been several studies showing organic foods having higher levels of antioxidants compared to foods grown with traditional practices.

One study conducted by PubMed found that organic products have a significantly higher concentration of antioxidants compared to non-organic, with one antioxidant in the study having a 69% higher concentration. These foods also contain some of the more important vitamins for your diet, so it’s important to pick out organic fruits, vegetables, nuts and other high-antioxidant foods the next time you go shopping.

Organic foods have high levels of omega-3 fatty acids

Recent research has shown certain organic products have higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, along with higher levels of vitamins that include iron and vitamin E.

Omega-3 fatty acids have an array of health benefits and several studies have shown they can reduce the chances of getting heart disease, certain cancers, Alzheimer’s disease and more, making them an ideal addition to most any diet.
